Product Review: Miscellaneous Snacks

I’ve tried some new products recently and thought a brief review of several at once would be fun.

Sillycow Farms hot cocoa mix in Chocolate Ginger Snap. Here in Naples, I found this product at Seed To Table grocery store. I’ve always enjoyed the Chocolate Chocolate version of their hot cocoa mix; it is my go-to cocoa of choice. It is rich, chocolatey, and very satisfying. But recently when I saw their Chocolate Ginger Snap flavor, I thought now would be a good time to try something new. I love chocolate. I love ginger. So what’s there not to love? This particular flavor, that’s what. It’s not terrible, but it just didn’t do it for me. The ginger flavor wasn’t as forward as I had hoped, so I guess I could say it was a disappointment. If ginger is going to show up for the party, I want to notice it. That said, will I use up this product? Yes. Will I buy it again? No. Will I go back to my Chocolate Chocolate flavor? Absolutely! Sillycow makes a great hot cocoa mix and I will remain a loyal customer.

88 Acres Chocolate Brownie Pumpkin Seed Protein Bar. In Naples, this product is available at Sprout’s Market. I’ve been searching for a good protein bar that can work for people with IBS. Far too many protein bars on the market contain ingredients that are not gut friendly for IBS. This bar has 12 grams of protein and contains no high FODMAP ingredients, so I thought I’d give it a go. I am not sure how to say it politely, but it was dreadfully unappealing and it left an unpleasant aftertaste in my mouth. Needless to say, I will not be purchasing this product again. Back to the drawing board.

Clio Greek Yogurt Bars in Vanilla. Locally, I have found this product at both Seed to Table and Sprout’s Market. Well, I guess the third try is a charm. Yum! Just yum! These are little greek yogurt snack bars that must have floated down from the heavens. The consistency is like cheesecake and the flavor is out of this world delicious. The original version contains 9 grams of protein and is offered in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and blueberry. If you’re being very careful about carbohydrate intake, they do have a version sweetened with erythritol, maltitol and stevia, though it has only 7 grams of protein. This zero sugar version comes in vanilla and mixed berry flavors. I’m eager to try every flavor of this product, as soon as I can track them all down. Without a doubt, this product instantly made it to my Favorite Things list.

Well, that’s it for now. I hope you’ve enjoyed these reviews. Thank you for reading and I hope you have a great week!
