Find Joy in the Journey

In my office space, I have a sign on one wall that says, “Find Joy in the Journey”. Regardless of the reason why a client comes to me seeking dietary counsel, the path to meeting one’s wellness goals seldom occurs in a linear fashion. Changing our habits and improving our health is a process and we are not machines. The journey will take time and perseverance. Our bodies are continually turning over new cells, adapting to the environment around us, and responding to stressors of all kinds, and even under the most ideal of circumstances, there are no guarantees. All of us at times can have bodies that behave like petulant two-year-olds to every little change we try to make. And regardless of our age, all of us are in the process of aging, which affects everything from our metabolic efficiency to our physical prowess. So what makes the difference between success and failure when it comes to health and nutrition? Perspective. In a world filled with gimmicks and fad diets, unrealistic expectations, and the ubiquitous use of Dr. Google for self-diagnosis and cure, sound counsel and compassionate support along the path from a trained nutrition professional can make all the difference when it comes to maintaining a proper perspective.
